Card with a Kite

I didn't really want to cut out the kite by hand on this card, so I made it so the tail of the kite was printed off on the paper stripes and base of the card and then just cut out the top part and attached it to the card with some adhesive foam.  Whew.  Got that?

I used Dani Mogstad's Flying High kit from Sweet Shoppe Designs.

Books We Love - Part 2

So here goes Part 2 of my series of  'Books We Love.'  We have been reading these over and over again lately - just can't get enough of them.

First up, is Anthony's favorite called Raindrop Plop by Wendy Cheyette Lewison.  It goes through the numbers 1 through 10 and the start of a rain shower and then back down from 10 to 1 to when the sun comes back out again.  He just loves pointing out the different things the dog is doing throughout the book (especially when he gets the pretzels).

Next, is one of Nathan's favorites called Tiger Can't Sleep by S.J. Fore.  It's a story about a boy who can't sleep because there's a Tiger in his closet.  I like it because I can use some different voices and facial expressions when I read it - Nathan loves that aspect too!

I hope to be back next week with some more books we love so stay tuned!

A Wonderful Cause

I didn't know the story behind this collaboration: We Are Family when I started my card, but once I found out I was very touched, because even though I've known Sally for just a few months, I've found that she is a very kind and loving person and I'm so honored to call her a friend.  You can read about it all here.  Please help by purchasing the kit and adding your layouts/projects to the galleries around digi-land.

Birdie Card & Layout

I made this thank you card with a little birdie on it for someone special.  It's soft and sweet and I hope the recipient likes it.

I made it with the lovely new kit from Sugarplum Paperie and Berry Sweet Designs called Happy Hearts.  It's got gorgeous yellows and pinks in it.  It kind of has a retro feel to it and I just love it.  Did I tell you I loved it?  ♥  Yeah, I do.

I used a new template set from Susan Robinson Designs and shrunk it down to the card size:

I also created a layout with both items for Log Your Memory's Week #30 prompt.  The retro, laid back feel is just so neat to me!  There is just something about that yellow color that I like.

Happy crafting and scrapping everyone!

A Round Card

This was a first for me.  I've never made a round card before and had no idea how I would go about doing it.  But thankfully, I found my good ol' round circle cutter from Creative Memories  from my paper scrapbooking days and away I went!

I used the Paper Crafts Go to Sketch #5 for this, along with Endless Summer from The Digichick Designers and DJB Constance Beauregard font.

I hope whoever receives it loves it as much as I do.  ♥

The Hybrid Chick Caravan

I'm very excited to be participating in the newly created Hybrid Chick Caravan at The Hybrid Chick!

The first stop on the caravan is Taylored Expressions for the sketch - Sketch #121.  This was my take on the sketch using Pixel Gypsy's Funky Munky kit:

I even have a goodie for all of you - see that word art on the card?  I made it and I've got it for you in a png file here.  I hope you enjoy it!  If you make something with it, I'd love to see it!

Books We Love

Kristin at Life's Small Moments really inspired me to share some of our favorite books at the moment.  I enjoy reading to the boys and they love sitting and listening to the stories.

One of our most favorite authors is Keiko Kasza.  We are blessed enough to be a part of the Imagination Library from Dolly Parton and each boy gets a new book each month until they are 5.  Nathan's almost done with the program and he's actually gotten these two books over the last couple of years and they are his favorites: Badger's Fancy Meal and My Lucky Day!  We'll really miss getting books each month for him!

Anthony loves this book from Kasza: When the Elephant Walks and trying to figure out who is going to get scared next.

Cheating on the Diet

I have to admit, I have not been doing well on my diet the past few days.  I've had a few sneaks of sweet stuff here and there and I can tell that I am starting to crave the sugar again.  I was doing so well too!  I'll get back on the wagon one of these days....I have to - I would love to be at goal weight by the end of the year!

Back to the whole sweet thing...hubby was gone for the past few days and as a way to welcome him home, the kids and I baked brownies (from scratch!) and frosted them (store bought).  They were so delicious!

Doesn't it look yummy?

Anthony was poking holes in the middle of the brownies instead of spreading out the frosting!

Both boys getting the hang of it.

Here's the Brownie recipe:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
Mix together and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.  Enjoy!

So proud!

I just have to share my latest creation for the July Portfolio at Sweet Shoppe.  It's a trinket box and I just adore it!  I used Traci Reed's 'When You're Smiling' kit and am so glad.  The colors are just perfect!

Believe it or not I had this box just laying around!  It used to have some watches in it.

After figuring out what papers I wanted to use in Photoshop Elements, I printed off all the supplies I'd need from Traci's kit and got to work measuring and cutting.  Then I mod podged the pieces of paper on and let dry.  While it was drying, I started working on the phone book flower. I am actually doing a blog post at The Hybrid Chick this coming Friday (the 16th) about how to make flowers out of an old phone book - so keep an eye out for that!  I also worked on the scalloped edge with my edge punch and laid it all out how I wanted it.  I also measured the ribbon to go around the entire outside of the box and adhered it with red line tape.  I added some small embellishments and some twine to the flower and voila!  This is the finished product!

Thanks for looking and happy crafting!

A New Look

I've got a new look to my blog!  Do you like it?  It's from Jennifer Fox and it's called Pretty Bloggie: My Little Garden and it was so very easy to install!  I'm all about easy!

Just thought I'd share some of my latest creations with you all today.

This first one was a lot of fun to make.  I actually got GSO  for this!  Talk about an honor!

Red, White and Daddy

We had a really nice 4th of July weekend.  We kept busy all weekend long.  Toy Story 3 was included in our activities and both boys really enjoyed seeing it.  I even cried a bit at the end.  So true on how fast kids grow up!

Last week I had the opportunity to work with a fantastic template designed by Jaclyn Bernardo - Peek-a-boo templates.  I am pretty sure that if I weren't on her team that I would be buying the set!  I used Krystal Hartley's 'Hero' kit with it and I just adore how it turned out.

I made some other things this past week but I'm not able to share them at the moment...I hear a little boy waking from a nap and I must go get him.  Hugs to you all!

Happy Scrapping!

Yummy 4th Treat!

I made these for the 4th of July festivities at my parents house last night.  They were absolutely delicious!  They were also fairly easy to make.

Here's the ingredients and directions:

  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 cup  cold milk
  • 1 pkg. (3.4 oz.) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
  • 1-1/2 cups  thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, divided
  • 1 pkg. (12 oz.) NILLA Wafers
  • 1/2 cup  mixed red, white and blue sprinkles
  • 42 pieces red string licorice (1 inch)

BEAT cream cheese in large bowl with mixer until creamy. Gradually beat in milk. Add dry pudding mix; beat 2 min. Whisk in 1 cup COOL WHIP.
SPOON about 1-1/2 Tbsp. pudding mixture onto each of half the wafers; cover with remaining wafers to make sandwiches. Freeze 2 hours or until filling is firm.
SPREAD tops of wafer sandwiches with remaining COOL WHIP. Dip in sprinkles (I used the sugary sprinkles). Insert licorice piece in top of each for the fuse. Freeze until ready to serve.
